Patriot Grave Marking

So that their graves will not be lost and to inform those who view the gravesite, the Col. James Wood, II Chapter marks the gravesites of Patriots of the American Revolution with a granite marker, plaque or other memorial to show their contributions to cause of freedom.

There is a documentation requirement and the gravesite is entered into the official records of the SAR and the Commonwealth of Virginia. If the burial of the Patriot is confirmed by records(Church, Cemetary or otherwise) and there is no suitable marker, the Col. James Wood, II Chapter will assist with the procuring and placement of the marker.

The Chapter provides a marker dedication ceremony with full honors, usually including the reading of the patriots life and service, prayers offered, Color Guard presence and musket volley and the playing of Taps or "Amazing Grace".

If you know of a patriot whose grave has not been marked or have an ancestor you wish recognized, please don't hesitate to contact us. The Patriot must be buried in Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Page or Shenandoah Counties or the City of Winchester.
